MAOISM IN INDIA

  • India's "greatest internal security challenge".
  • Prevailing in almost 23 states of India
  • The rebels say they are fighting for the rights of indigenous tribes
  • The Maoists' military leader is Koteshwar Rao, otherwise known as Kishenji

Six years ago, the Prime Minister of India had declared that Maoism was the single biggest internal security challenge ever faced by our country. On 6 April 2010, 76 CRPF men were ambushed and killed by Maoists in the forests of Dantewada, state of Chhattisgarh.
Several decades later it had become, in the words of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India's "greatest internal security challenge".
Maoists are also known as "Naxalites" because of the violent left-wing uprising in 1967, which began in the West Bengal village of Naxalbari.
This spans the states of Jharkand, West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh and also reaches into Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.
The Maoists and affiliated groups are active in more than a third of India's 600-odd districts, the authorities say.
And more than 6,000 people have died in the rebels' long fight for communist rule in these states.
The Maoists' military leader is Koteshwar Rao, otherwise known as Kishenji
The term Maoism comes from Mao Zedong of China who formulated a variant of the Marxist-Leninist communism in China. The main principle of Maoism is the armed revolt of the farmers against the ruling class. It is also known as the People’s War wherein masses of the lower classes resort to guerilla warfare against the ruling parties and the government.
The rebels say they are fighting for the rights of indigenous tribes people and the rural poor who they say have been neglected by governments for decades.
Maoists claim to represent local concerns over land ownership and equitable distribution of resources.
Ultimately they say they want to establish a "communist society" by overthrowing India's "semi-colonial, semi-feudal" form of rule through armed struggle.

In post independent India, the government brought thousands of acres of land under development. This acquisition of land left thousands of tribal communities homeless. According to Dr. Walter Fernandez an estimated 60 million people were displaced between 1947 and 2004. These tribal people did not get adequate compensation and were deprived of their livelihood since they depended on the forests for sustenance.
In 1967 in the Naxalbari village in West Bengal, tribals and peasants organized the first armed struggle against the government. Led by Charu Majumdar who was influenced by Maoist thought, the movement became known as the Naxalite movement.
Today, the Communist Party of India (Maoist) is the political party representing the principles of Maoism. Its aim is to overthrow the government of India. The Maoist movement has infested almost the whole country in the past 40 years. It is now present in 23 of the 28 states. Every year, the Maoists are killing more people in order to fulfill their aims.
The government of India has banned the CPI (Maoist) party by labeling it as a terrorist organization and is constantly exploring military options to put an end to Maoism. This is because the Maoist organization is being funded chiefly through extortion, looting, abductions and poppy cultivation.

BURJ KHALIFA : TALLEST BUIDLING IN THE WORLD

Burj Khalifa , known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai , and is the tallest man made structure in the world, at 829.8 m (2,722 ft)
Construction began on 21 September 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009. The building officially opened on 4 January 2010,
At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds the following records:
  • Tallest building in the world
  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world
  • Highest number of stories in the world
  • Highest occupied floor in the world
  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
  • Tallest service elevator in the world
  • Tallest of the Supertall

World's tallest building. A living wonder. Stunning work of art. Incomparable feat of engineering. Burj Khalifa is all that. In concept and execution, Burj Khalifa has no peer.
More than just the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa is an unprecedented example of international cooperation, symbolic beacon of progress, and an emblem of the new, dynamic and prosperous Middle East.

It is also tangible proof of Dubai's growing role in a changing world. In fewer than 30 years, this city has transformed itself from a regional centre to a global one. This success was not based on oil reserves, but on reserves of human talent, ingenuity and initiative. Burj Khalifa embodies that vision.

Mr Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman, Emaar Properties, said: "Burj Khalifa goes beyond its imposing physical specifications. In Burj Khalifa, we see the triumph of Dubai's vision of attaining the seemingly impossible and setting new benchmarks. It is a source of inspiration for every one of us in Emaar. The project is a declaration of the emirate's capabilities and of the resolve of its leaders and people to work hand in hand on truly awe-inspiring projects.
Not only is Burj Khalifa the world’s tallest building, it has also broken two other impressive records: tallest structure, previously held by the KVLY-TV mast in Blanchard, North Dakota, and tallest free-standing structure, previously held by Toronto’s CN Tower. The Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has established 3 criteria to determine what makes a tall building tall. Burj Khalifa wins by far in all three categories.

Height to architectural top

Height is measured from the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance to the architectural top of the building. This includes spires, but does not include antennae, signage, flagpoles or other functional-technical equipment. This measurement is the most widely used and is used to define the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat rankings of the Tallest Buildings in the World.

Highest occupied floor

Height is measured from the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance to the highest continually occupied floor within the building. Maintenance areas are not included.

Height to tip

Height is measured from the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance to the highest point of the building, irrespective of material or function of the highest element. This includes antennae, flagpoles, signage and other functional-technical equipment.

The design of Burj Khalifa is derived from patterning systems embodied in Islamic Architecture According to the structural engineer, Bill Baker of SOM, the building's design incorporates cultural and historical elements particular to the region. The Y-shaped plan is ideal for residential and hotel usage, with the wings allowing maximum outward views and inward natural light The design architect, Adrian Smith, has said the triple lobed footprint of the building was inspired by the flower Hymenocallis.

Matheran is a hill station and a municipal council in the raijad district in the Indian states of Maharastra. It is a hill station in kajrat tehsil  and is also the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western ghats range at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. It is located around 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune. Matheran's proximity to many metropolitan cities makes it a popular weekend getaway for urban residents. The name Matheran means "forest on the forehead" (of the mountains).
Matheran is an eco-sensitive region, declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. It is one of the few places in the world where vehicles are not allowed, which makes the place different from others. Matheran takes you over a hundred years back in time when there were no vehicles.
Because of vehicles being banned in Matheran, the place is quite peaceful despite the thousands of visitors coming to visit throughout the year.
There are lots of lookout points that provide spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Matheran has a reasonably dense forest cover.
There are around 38 designated look-out points in Matheran, including the Panorama Point that provides a 360 degree view of the surrounding area and also the Neral town. From this point, the view of sunset and sunrise is breathtaking. The Louisa Point offers crystal clear view of the Prabal Fort. The other points are the One Tree Hill Point, Hart Point, Monkey Point, Porcupine Point, Rambagh Point, and more.
Matheran was discovered by Hugh Poyntz Malet in May 1850.
At Matheran you will be relax, Rested and Rejuvenating. Really this is the effect of Matheran atmosphere, which you will be experienced.. You will find deep forest and Red mud road at Matheran and for transportation you can walk, can hire Horse or Rickshaw pullers.

Today in the 21st Century where Car, bike and Automobile became your life partner, even after doctor’s suggestion you can not walk and breathe out of your Vehicle. We found that in the whole world, pollutions in the cities can not be controlled at any level. But the Matheran is calm! Calm!! Calm!!! Matheran is not just the city which left behind, but also the dissonance of traffic.

It’s damn sure, 100% one will not hear even one single horn any where in Matheran. Cars, Bikes and any Automobile are not allowed up here. All the vehicles have to be park at Dasturi Naka, which 3 kms outside the main street of Matheran and this is the uniqueness of Matheran city. For such, Matheran is the only place in Asia and one of among the few places in the world.

The forest ecosystem at Matheran is unique and remarkable in many respects - its dense and lofty arboreal growth, peculiar blending of evergreen and moist deciduous species and moreover a high percentage of endemism and almost undisturbed natural climatic climax formations.
